Myrtle is a 1983 ½ liquid-cooled Vanagon with the big steering wheel (no power-steering) and a manual 4-speed transmission. The original-design “water-boxer” engine was rebuilt from completely clean original factory core, and expanded to 2.2 liters, by GoWesty in California. It was installed by Mark at Wolfsburg Autowerks in Boulder, CO in 2011. The engine has 35,000 miles on it. The van has 185,000 miles total.
Mark at Wolfsburg (Vanagon specialist) has overseen all maintenance and work on this van since 2001.
Myrtle runs great, quiet and strong, able to stay in 3rd gear and proper speeds up the steep passes and high elevations around Fairplay, CO.
